Cover: The cover looks fine except for the mirror image words in orange. I think a graphic of a tall Hollywood theater marque would look better as the frame for the left side.

This is my favorite cover of yours thus far. However, I am with Muga2 on the mirror image of the words. It’s a bit awkward. But I do love the over all feel and the faded title over the face. Very nice.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys! I don’t ask my graphic designer to get involved when I’m doing the cover for a short story. It’s not at all that he is overly expensive–he’s talented and very reasonable–but I just can’t justify the expense of bringing anyone else in when it’s a short story going for such a low price. I did this one myself from a morguefiles image and using picnik. Not optimum but I think it’ll do for now. The marquee is a good idea that suits the story, but it’s beyond my graphics skills at the moment. 🙂

What program are you using for your graphics? I use photoshop elements… well, I did until my laptop went bye-bye last week. There’s are two features in PSE which allow you to create inner and outer glows. It’s a simple click of the button to produce the effect.

There’s also a free program (GIMP), which I’m not so familiar with. If I have any graphic needs between now and next week (when I plan to pick up a new laptop), I plan to put it to use. I found the below tutorial on how to do an outer glow. I tried it out in GIMP and it was pretty easy to follow.

I know what you mean by trying to save money for short stories. Depending on the price, it can take quite a few sales to earn back any investment. Though I’m not the greatest, I do all my covers. 🙂 By the time I have a decent following, I hope to be an expert.

Hi. Thanks for your thoughts. I tried GIMP but as I recall I didn’t find the interface as intuitive as you did. Picnik is what I use and it’s really simple (though perhaps that limits its capabilities, too.) I can recognize a bad cover pretty easily. Making a good cover is more elusive. 🙂
